Academic Vocabulary in Applied Linguistics Research Articles: A Corpus-based Study

Аннотация

Введение. Академическая лексика, как правило, чаще используется в академическом дискурсе для описания абстрактных идей и процессов и представляет собой серьезную нагрузку в плане изучения для носителей и не носителей английского языка. Недавние разработки в технологиях и инструментах на основе корпуса позволили анализировать большие объемы текстов для профилирования словарных единиц, а также растущее число исследований, посвященных такой лексике в исследовательских статьях, опубликованных в различных дисциплинах.

Цель. Несмотря на значительный прогресс в разработке списков слов, используемых в академическом дискурсе, исследования, посвященные вкладу недавно разработанных списков слов в академических текстах, оставались в значительной степени ограниченными. Соответственно, в большинстве исследований в качестве отправной точки в своих исследованиях использовались устаревшие списки общей и академической лексики.

Методы. В ходе настоящего исследования был изучен большой массив научных статей по прикладной лингвистике (2000 исследовательских статей, 15,5 млн слов, 20 журналов) для определения часто используемых академических слов на основе Нового академического списка слов (NAWL). При анализе данных использовались заранее определенные критерии, а в исследовании использовалась флемма для подсчета и определения слов.

Результаты. результаты показали, что 310 из 960 академических слов в NAWL часто использовались в корпусе и обеспечивали охват 4,19%. Этот охват значительно отличается от предыдущих исследований, в которых изучались аналогичные корпуса с использованием списка слов из академического дискурса (AWL) и сообщалось о более чем 10% охвате академической лексики. Поскольку базовые списки, использованные для профилирования корпуса в данном исследовании, отличались от списков, использовавшихся в предыдущих работах, такие различия, главным образом, возникают как результат лучшего использования общей служебной и академической лексики.

Выводы. В свете этих результатов и недавних призывов к проведению дополнительных исследований в области словарного запаса данное исследование может оказаться полезным для изучения и преподавания академической лексики. Кроме того, чтобы облегчить изучение академической лексики в прикладной лингвистике, в исследовании представлен список часто используемых элементов NAWL, разделенных на шесть групп в зависимости от их частоты в корпусе.
